Deconstructed Cheeseburger Salad Recipe

This Cheeseburger Salad Recipeis super easy to create and there are many ingredients you’ll have on hand. The salad ingredients are not measured out precisely because you can add in as much as you like based on the size of the salad you’re creating.

Ingredients:

For the Cheeseburger Meat:

  • 1 lb lean ground beef (90/10)
  • 1 small yellow onion, diced
  • 1 tbsp ketchup
  • 1 tsp onion powder
  • 1 tsp garlic powder
  • 1/4 tsp kosher salt
  • Shredded cheddar cheese

For the Salad:

  • Mixed salad greens (such as romaine lettuce)
  • Cherry tomatoes
  • Sliced red onion
  • Chopped pickles
  • Diced avocado
  • Sweet potato fries (frozen and air-fried)

For the Homemade Salad Dressing:

  • 1 tbsp dijon mustard
  • 1 tbsp apple cider vinegar
  • 1 clove garlic, minced
  • 1 tbsp olive oil
  • Salt and pepper to taste

Instructions:

  1. Heat 1 tsp of olive oil in a large skillet over medium-high heat. Add the diced onion and sauté for about 3 minutes until translucent.
  2. Add the lean ground beef to the skillet and cook until it’s no longer pink, breaking it up with a wooden spoon as it cooks.
  3. Once the beef is cooked through, drain any excess fat from the skillet. Then, add the ketchup, onion powder, garlic powder, and kosher salt. Mix everything together gently until well combined.
  4. Sprinkle shredded cheddar cheese over the beef mixture and reduce the heat to low. Cover the skillet with a lid and let it sit for a few minutes to allow the cheese to melt.
  5. While the cheese is melting, prepare the dressing. In a small bowl, whisk together the dijon mustard, apple cider vinegar, minced garlic, and olive oil. Season with salt and pepper to taste. If the dressing is too thick, you can thin it out with a little water.
  6. To assemble the salad, start by arranging a bed of mixed salad greens in a large bowl. Then, add the cooked cheeseburger meat on top, along with your favorite burger toppings such as cherry tomatoes, sliced red onion, chopped pickles, diced avocado, and sweet potato fries.
  7. Drizzle the homemade dressing over the salad, ensuring that each bite is coated with delicious flavor.
  8. Serve immediately and enjoy the fantastic flavors of a cheeseburger in a healthier salad form!

Technique Tip

For an extra burst of flavor, try adding some sesame seeds to your salad. Simply sprinkle them on top before serving for a delightful crunch and nutty taste. It’ll give you the effect of a sesame seed bun without the bread.

Swap Option

If you’re looking for a lighter option, you can swap out the lean ground beef for ground turkey. It’s just as delicious and adds a healthy twist to the recipe. Also, if you love Thousand Island dressing (think In & Out burgers or Big Mac sauce), you can also drizzle some on top or use it instead of the salad dressing.

Meal Prep

This Cheeseburger Salad is perfect for meal prep! Simply cook the cheeseburger meat in advance and store it in the fridge. When you’re ready to enjoy your salad, simply assemble the ingredients and drizzle with dressing for a quick and easy meal any day of the week.
