Your Guide to a Perfect Skin Care Routine at Home

Taking care of your skin isn’t just about looking good—it’s about feeling great too. When you invest in your skin, you’re investing in your confidence and overall well-being. A solid skincare routine should be personal, addressing your skin’s unique needs while adding the right active ingredients into the mix. In this guide, I’ll walk you through my daily skin care routine at home, share my go-to products, and break down why each one works wonders. Whether you’re dealing with oily skin, dry skin, or acne-prone skin, this routine has got you covered.

Why a Daily Skincare Routine Actually Matters

Skincare isn’t just about looking good—it’s about keeping your skin healthy and happy underneath it all. Our skin does a lot for us, acting as a shield against things like sun damage, pollution, and all the other stuff life throws our way. Taking a little time each day to care for it can really pay off, helping your skin stay strong, smooth, and glowy.

Everyone’s skin is different, so your routine should reflect what your skin needs most. You might be dealing with dryness, oiliness, breakouts, or just trying to maintain a good balance. The right steps and products can make a big difference in how your skin feels and shows up day to day. Here’s a peek at my own routine—and why each step has earned a permanent spot.

1. Cleanse:

Garnier Micellar Cleansing Water & Makeup Remover

I start with Garnier Micellar Cleansing Water & Makeup Remover to gently remove all my makeup—foundation, mascara, and sunscreen.

DHC Water-Friendly Face Cleansing Oil

This product helps to break down any remaining impurities while nourishing my skin.

Note: Both of these products work together to ensure a deep clean without stripping or drying out my skin. I’m left with smooth, happy skin that’s prepped for the next steps in my routine.

2. Tone + Refresh:

Tower 28 SOS Daily Rescue Facial Spray

This toner packs a punch with hypochlorous acid, which fights bacteria and calms redness. It’s soothing, helping keep my skin in balance and prepped for the next steps.

Note: I use it right after cleansing, before layering anything else on. It gives my skin that “awake and balanced” feeling before I move into serums. This one’s perfect for sensitive and acne-prone skin, as it’s gentle and free from harsh ingredients.

Rhode Skin Glazing Milk

If you have oily skin, you might prefer this Glazing Milk. It’s nutrient-rich, glides on silky smooth, and hydrates without feeling greasy. Plus, it works great as a base for makeup or sunscreen.

Fitish Tone Down CBD Spray

Minty and refreshing, this spritz wakes up my skin first thing in the morning and the CBD and aloe helps fight redness, even during workouts.

3. Serums:

Depending on what your skin needs—whether it’s brightening, lifting, or hydration—you can choose the right serum to address it.

Derma-E Vitamin C Serum

My go-to for brightening skin and fading dark spots. It helps even out skin tone and protects against free radicals—perfect for my morning routine.

FOREO Supercharged Serum 2.0

Conductive serum for my FOREO Bear 2 microcurrent device! This serum also has squalane, ceramides and antioxidants.

Stemulation Liquid Gold Facial Serum

If you’re after an age-defying product that delivers, this one’s it. This one helps with fine lines, skin healing, and discoloration.

Skin Pharm Youth Serum with Hyaluronic Acid

Hyaluronic acid is amazing at pulling moisture into the skin, leaving my face glowing and plump.

Note: You might not need all of these serums at once, but I rotate them depending on my skin’s needs each day. Whether you’re after hydration, anti-aging benefits, or a glow-up, these serums offer something for every concern.

4. Eye Cream:

FIG1 Vitamin C Eye Cream,

I love that this eye cream has both vitamin C and caffeine to brighten and wake up tired eyes.

Note: These ingredients help reduce swelling and boost circulation, leaving you with refreshed, bright eyes. The delicate skin around our eyes is one of the first places to show signs of aging, like dark circles and fine lines. That’s why I always make sure to include an eye cream in my routine.

5. Moisturize:

Sunday Riley C.E.O. Vitamin C Rich Hydration Cream

This cream is intensely hydrating and packed with vitamin C, which brightens and protects against environmental stressors like pollution and UV light. I love using it at night for that extra TLC my skin craves.

ONESKIN OS-01 Face Topical Supplement

This is my go-to for improving skin firmness, radiance, and overall health. It helps retain moisture and balance the skin, tackling signs of aging.

Why it matters: Hydration is everything when it comes to keeping skin healthy and youthful. No matter your skin type—dry, oily, or combination—a good moisturizer helps lock in all the goodness from the previous steps and seals in moisture.

6. Lips:

BYOS Vanilla Peptide Lip Repair

To keep my lips smooth and hydrated, I reach for BYOS Vanilla Peptide Lip Repair. It’s packed with peptides and essential oils that leave my lips soft and moisturized. Love the mint scent as well.

Optional Step:

Totally optional, but a game-changer if you want to take your routine one step further.

FOREO Bear 2 Microcurrent Device

Pilates for your face!! I use this microcurrent device daily – just 10 passes on each side of my jaw, cheekbones and brow bones to lift and tone my face.

Consistency is Key

The best results come with consistency. It’s tempting to jump around from product to product, but the real magic happens when you stick to a routine and give the products time to work. Your skin will renew, and you’ll see improvements in hydration, texture, and tone. I recommend following your routine twice a day—morning and night. The key is patience and letting your skin adjust over time.

FAQs

Your skin’s needs can change over time due to factors like age, season, diet, or environmental factors. It’s generally a good idea to revisit your skin care routine every 3 to 6 months to make sure it’s still addressing your concerns. If you’re experiencing skin issues like dryness or acne, it might be time to switch up your products or incorporate gentle exfoliation to remove dead skin cells. If you notice any allergic reactions, you might want to patch-test new products before fully introducing them.

Yes, you can use the same routine for both, but it’s important to adjust your products to suit your needs. For example, during the day, make sure to apply sunscreen (which protects against UVB rays) and you may want to use lighter products like a hydrating serum or a face wash that’s gentle on the skin’s surface. At night, you can focus more on repair and hydration with richer creams or treatment serums that nourish your skin barrier.

Understanding your skin type is key to choosing the right skin care products. If you have oily skin, look for lightweight, oil-free products. For dry skin, go for thicker, hydrating formulas with ingredients like vitamin E and coconut oil, which help lock in moisture. Combination skin can benefit from gentle exfoliation and products that balance both oily and dry areas. If you’re ever in doubt, patch-testing a product to make sure it works for sensitive skin types is always a good idea.

UV rays can penetrate through clouds and glass, causing long-term damage to your skin even if it doesn’t feel sunny. Sunscreen protects your skin’s natural barrier from both UVA rays, which contribute to aging and wrinkles, and UVB rays, which cause sunburns. Daily sun protection is a must for healthy skin, rain or shine!

Yes! It’s generally recommended to apply your skin care products from thinnest to thickest. Start with cleansers, followed by toners or serums, and finish with thicker face moisturizers. If you’re using an eye cream, it typically goes on before your moisturizer. The exception to this rule is sunscreen, which should always be the final step in your morning skin care routine.

To treat acne, look for products with ingredients like salicylic acid or lactic acid. Salicylic acid works by clearing out clogged pores and reducing inflammation, while lactic acid provides gentle exfoliation to smooth skin and improve texture.

If you’re targeting hyperpigmentation—like dark spots or uneven skin tone—ingredients such as vitamin C, glycolic acid, and kojic acid can help. Vitamin C is a powerful antioxidant that brightens skin and helps fade discoloration. Glycolic acid, an alpha-hydroxy acid (AHA), boosts cell turnover to reveal fresher, more even-toned skin. Kojic acid specifically targets pigment production and is often used to lighten dark spots over time.

When it comes to acids (like AHAs, BHAs, and retinol), it’s important to know that they can be potent and potentially irritating if used together. If you’re using chemical exfoliators, you should avoid layering too many in the same routine. Start slow and see how your skin reacts, then adjust as necessary. If you’re introducing a new acid, consider using it at night and be sure to apply sunscreen during the day to protect your skin’s barrier from the risk of sun damage and water loss.

Skincare is a long game. While some products (like hydrating ones) might show immediate results, most skin care benefits—like healthier skin or reduced fine lines—take time. It typically takes 4 to 6 weeks of consistent use to see noticeable changes, as this is the time it takes for your skin to regenerate. Stick with it, and you’ll start to see the huge difference!

Taking care of your skin at home can be simple and effective when you use the right steps and products that fit your skin’s needs. With regular care, you’ll see healthier, more radiant skin in no time. Whether you’re managing oily skin, dry skin, or any other skin concern, this routine will help you create a perfect skin care routine at home.

The goal is to find what works for you and stick with it. By choosing the right combination of gentle cleansers, active ingredients, moisturizers, and treatments, you’re giving your skin the care it deserves. Here’s to healthy, glowing skin and a refreshed complexion every day!
