Prosciutto-Wrapped Dates Stuffed With Goat Cheese

Prosciutto-Wrapped Dates Stuffed With Goat Cheese

With the holidays quickly approaching, I can’t help but start planning the appetizers I’ll prepare for all the family gatherings and holiday parties this holiday season! One of my all-time favorites, that I make every year, is my prosciutto-wrapped dates stuffed with goat cheese.

The sweet medjool dates give a caramel-like sweetness that pairs so well with the salty prosciutto slice. Combined with the creamy goat cheese, this medley of flavors is incredibly satisfying and truly creates the perfect balance, all in one bite.

Why I Love These Stuffed Dates

If you’re looking for an appetizer that feels a bit fancier than your typical finger food, then you’re going to love this recipe. Not only does it have an elevated touch to it, but it’s also incredibly simple to make. I love that this recipe uses just a few simple ingredients, and there’s no cooking involved, making it a quick appetizer to whip up. These tasty little bites are an appetizer your guests will rave about! If you’re anything like me, you’ll find yourself reaching for seconds (or thirds!) once you take your first bite.

Ingredients You’ll Need

  • 8 whole pitted medjool dates, cut in half lengthwise
  • 16 teaspoons of goat cheese (any flavor, about 1/3 cup total)
  • 16 halves of pecans or walnuts (optional)
  • 8 whole pieces of prosciutto, torn in half lengthwise
  • Honey for drizzling
  • Sea salt
  • Fresh thyme

How to Make Prosciutto-Wrapped Dates

  1. Set your oven to broil.
  2. Scoop about 1 teaspoon of goat cheese into the top of each date half, then place a nut half, if using, on top of each one.
  3. Wrap the date with a half slice of prosciutto. It’s best to start at one end and wrap around, ensuring the seal is on the bottom to keep everything intact.
  4. Arrange the wrapped dates on a prepared baking sheet lined with parchment paper, then broil for about 5 minutes, or until the prosciutto is crispy and golden.
  5. Remove from the oven and drizzle with honey, sprinkling a little sea salt and fresh thyme leaves on top for an added touch of flavor.
  6. Serve them warm, at room temperature, or even chilled!

FAQs

Blue cheese or gorgonzola cheese will add a tangy flavor that pairs wonderfully with the sweet dates and salty prosciutto. You could also try cream cheese for a richer texture or even brie for a more indulgent taste.

You can prepare the dates up to a day ahead. Stuff them with cheese, wrap them in prosciutto, and place them on a lined baking sheet. Cover with plastic wrap and refrigerate until ready to broil. When your guests arrive, simply broil them for a few minutes.

If you’re looking for alternatives, serrano ham is a fantastic option that offers a similar flavor profile to prosciutto. You could also try bacon-wrapped dates which provide similar flavors.

Store any leftover stuffed dates in an airtight container in the refrigerator. They can be enjoyed cold or reheated in the oven until warmed through.

These stuffed dates are best served warm, but they’re also delicious at room temperature or even chilled. Arrange them on a platter for your appetizer table and drizzle with a balsamic glaze for an extra touch.
