However, with this recipe, I’ve finally achieved the perfect balance of sweet and citrus to create a smooth, creamy summertime cocktail that you’ll want to make on repeat. From the fruitiness of the pineapple, to the refreshing muddled mint and kick of lime at the end, this margarita is perfect for every occasion, from an at-home happy hour to a day at the pool.

A tropical spin on the Classic Margarita

Margaritas are a classic cocktail, but this coconut-pineapple margarita recipe takes things up a notch with a tropical spin. Think of it as a cross between a piña colada and a traditional margarita, but with a creamy coconut finish that makes every sip taste like a tropical escape.

This margarita leans into the natural sweetness of fresh pineapple juice and the richness of creamy coconut milk. The combination of tequila and Grand Marnier orange liqueur gives it that classic margarita base, while the coconut and pineapple bring the beachy vibes.

How to rim your glass for an extra tropical touch!

Want to make this cocktail even better? A toasted coconut rim or a coconut lime zest rim adds a little texture and enhances the coconut flavor. Here’s how to do it:

  • Pour coarse salt or toasted coconut onto a small flat plate.
  • Rub a lime wedge around the edge of the glass to moisten it.
  • Dip the rim of the glass into the coconut or salt mixture.
  • Let it sit for a few minutes to set before pouring in your margarita.

The Savvy Spoon margarita variations:

If you love a good margarita, you’ll love experimenting with these fun takes on this tropical margarita:

  • Frozen Pineapple Coconut Margaritas – Blend everything with ice for a frozen margarita that’s extra thick and frosty. Add frozen pineapple chunks for even more fruitiness.
  • Coconut Tequila Margarita – Swap regular tequila for coconut tequila or add a splash of coconut rum for even more tropical vacation vibes.
  • Lighter Piña Coco Margarita – Use coconut water instead of coconut milk for a refreshing, lower-calorie version.
  • Large Pitcher Version – Multiply the recipe by 4 or 6 to make a batch for a party. Just mix everything in a large pitcher and serve over ice!
