Ingredients You’ll Need

Here’s everything that goes inside these delicious Italian Turkey Lettuce Wraps:

  • 5 large iceberg lettuce leaves
  • 3 tbs. prepared pesto
  • 2 slices deli turkey
  • 1 slice prosciutto
  • 2 slices white cheese (provolone or horseradish cheddar)
  • 5 slices red onion
  • ½ small avocado, sliced
  • red wine vinegar
  • Italian seasoning
  • salt + pepper
  • optional: jalapeño slices

How to Make Italian Turkey Lettuce Wraps

This method is so easy and gives you that tight, burrito-style wrap that stays together beautifully.

  1. Lay down your parchment.
Place a piece of parchment paper on your cutting board — trust me, this makes everything easier.
  2. Create your lettuce base.
Arrange the iceberg lettuce leaves on the parchment so they overlap and form a big rectangular “sheet.”
  3. Spread the pesto.
Gently smear the prepared pesto over the lettuce without shifting the leaves around too much.
  4. Start layering.
Add your deli turkey, prosciutto, cheese slices, red onions, avocado, a splash of red wine vinegar, Italian seasoning, salt, and pepper. Build that flavor, babe!
  5. Wrap it like a burrito.
Starting from the end closest to you, use the parchment to tightly roll everything up. As you roll, pull the parchment back so it doesn’t get wrapped inside. Tuck in the bottom as you go for structure.
  6. Eat and enjoy.
Hold the wrap at the tucked end and peel back the parchment as you eat. Zero mess, all flavor.

Best Ways to Enjoy These Lettuce Wraps

These Italian Turkey Lettuce Wraps are so versatile. Enjoy them:

  • as a quick work-from-home lunch
  • for a fresh and light summer meal
  • as a grab-and-go snack
  • paired with a cup of soup or a side salad
  • sliced into halves or thirds for an appetizer board moment

Once you get the hang of rolling them, you’ll basically be unstoppable.

Tips for the Most Delicious Lettuce Wraps

A few simple tricks to make them extra amazing:

  • Use iceberg lettuce for the crunch. Butter lettuce is soft and sweet, but iceberg wins for structure.
  • Layer the lettuce generously. More overlapping leaves = a sturdier wrap.
  • Add the red wine vinegar sparingly. You want tang, not sogginess.
  • Slice everything thinly. This keeps the wrap tight and rollable.
  • Eat shortly after making. Lettuce wraps are at their peak freshness right away.

Optional Add-Ins: If You Want to Level Up

Because you know I love a little extra:

  • pepperoncini for tang
  • roasted red peppers
  • a drizzle of balsamic glaze
  • crispy chickpeas for crunch
  • fresh basil leaves
  • marinated artichokes (chopped!)

Whatever Italian-inspired vibes you’re feeling — go for it.

FAQs

Absolutely! While iceberg gives you that super crisp lettuce moment and is honestly the best lettuce for sturdy wraps, you can swap in butter lettuce or romaine. Butter lettuce creates softer turkey lettuce cups (still delicious, just not as firm), and romaine works if you prefer longer, taco-style wraps. No matter what you choose, make sure your pieces of lettuce overlap enough so the wrap stays tight and doesn’t split.

Yes and no. You can prep all the turkey filling ingredients ahead of time, but don’t assemble until you’re ready to eat — lettuce wraps stay crisp for only so long, and we want that peak crunch. For healthy dinner meal prep, keep everything in separate containers and add the pesto right before rolling so the lettuce doesn’t get soggy. Quick assembly, super fresh finished product.

you want something heartier, seasoned ground beef makes a delicious Italian-style filling. You can even sauté ground chicken with Italian seasoning as a flavorful protein option. Just let warm proteins cool slightly before assembling so the lettuce doesn’t wilt. Any of these variations turn the wraps into an easy, protein-packed lunch or healthy turkey lettuce wraps for dinner.

For sure — just skip the cheese or use your favorite dairy-free white cheese slices. The pesto, turkey, and crisp lettuce still bring tons of flavor, so it’s still a great recipe even without cheese.

Jalapeño slices are the easiest way to bring heat, but you can also add crushed red pepper, Calabrian chili paste, or spicy pesto. If you’re using a cooked protein like ground beef or lean ground turkey, season the mixture with chili flakes or garlic chili oil for an even bigger kick. All of these blend beautifully with the Italian flavor profile.

Use more overlapping pieces of lettuce than you think you need — that’s the secret. The parchment paper method keeps everything tight and burrito-style, giving you a neat finished product that doesn’t leak or tear. Iceberg is your best friend here because it’s the best lettuce for structure and that signature crunch.

Yes! They’re incredibly balanced — high protein, low carb, and full of fresh ingredients. Whether you’re looking for easy dinner ideas or a light lunch, these make a healthy dinner that still feels flavorful and satisfying. And if you’re trying to add more veggies or lighten things up, these lettuce wraps are a great way to do it without sacrificing flavor. Pair them with a cup of Italian-style soup or roasted veggies for a complete meal.

Totally! If you don’t feel like rolling them, simply use individual lettuce leaves and fill them taco-style. It’s an easy recipe that’s perfect for parties, snacking, or serving as a great appetizer. Think of them as mini Italian turkey lettuce cups — always a crowd-pleaser and super customizable.

Not at all! A warm, seasoned turkey filling made from sautéed lean ground turkey is an amazing variation. Add garlic, Italian seasoning, salt, and pepper for a flavorful base, and let it cool slightly before adding it to your lettuce. This version is heartier and makes the wraps feel more like an easy dinner than just a quick lunch.

Yes! When you’re at the grocery store, look for:

  • Iceberg lettuce heads that feel heavy for their size (they’ll be extra crisp)
  • Fresh deli turkey sliced thin for easy rolling
  • Pesto with simple, high-quality ingredients (basil, olive oil, nuts — you can taste the difference!)
  • Avocados that give slightly when pressed

Using high-quality basics always leads to a better finished product — especially in simple, fresh recipes like this one.

I hope you love these Italian Turkey Lettuce Wraps as much as I do! They’re crunchy, flavorful, and one of those effortless recipes you’ll find yourself making again and again. If you try them, come back and tell me all about it — I love hearing how you make these recipes your own!
