The perfect breakfast snack for the whole family!

Looking for a quick and easy, delicious breakfast recipe that’s perfect for busy mornings? Who doesn’t love a good egg? Scrambled, fried, sunny side up, eggs are easily one of the most versatile ingredients, and definitely one of the yummiest. And, as I pivot to baby-friendly cooking, I’ve discovered my favorite way to make eggs yet: egg bites!

These baby-friendly baked egg bites are just what you need in your breakfast rotation! Packed with simple ingredients and loaded with essential nutrients, they are a great way to start your day. Quick, easy, and perfectly poppable thanks to their mini muffin shape, these egg bites are one of the best breakfast finger foods for babies, young children, older kids, and adults alike. And talk about customization. These baked scrambled egg bites can be packed with so many different veggies and proteins to satisfy your family!

Why you’ll love these egg bites for your little ones (and yourself too!)

Not only are these baby-friendly baked egg bites delicious, but they are also packed with great nutrients for your growing little one. Eggs are a great source of protein, vitamin D, and vitamin C, while veggies add fiber and other important vitamins and minerals. They are a well-balanced meal that will keep you and your little ones satisfied until lunchtime.

Let’s talk ingredients!

I used what I had on hand—baby red bell pepper, red onion, and fresh spinach, all chopped finely into small pieces. You can also add in some different cheeses like cottage cheese for a creamy texture, cheddar cheese or mozzarella cheese. There are so many different ways to customize these bites based on your tastes or your baby’s diet. I absolutely loveeee to make these at the beginning of the week and store them in an air-tight container to have on hand for you and your snacking littles all week long! They’re a healthy baby option that’s perfect for busy mornings.

Note: Full ingredient measurements are listed in the recipe card below.

Here’s how you’ll make my Baby-Friendly Egg Bites:

Preheat your oven to 350°F (175°C) and grease a mini muffin tin with nonstick spray

In a pourable dish, add eggs and whisk. Add milk, chopped veggies, salt and pepper, stirring to combine

Distribute the egg mixture evenly between the 12 muffin tins & top each with cheese

Bake for ~12 minutes or until fully set. Let cool slightly before serving!

Storage and Meal Prep Tips

And let’s not forget about the convenience factor, with their mini muffin shape, these little egg bites are the perfect size for little hands and make for a great on-the-go snack. These egg bites will last about 4-5 days in the fridge, when stored in an airtight container.

They are also ideal for meal prep. Simply make a big batch ahead of time, let them cool to room temperature, then store them in an airtight container or freezer-safe bags, and you’ll have a quick breakfast option ready to go on those busy mornings. Just reheat them in the toaster oven (350°F for about 5-7 minutes, or until heated through) or microwave for about 20–30 seconds, and you’re good to go!

Serving suggestions:

These egg bites pair perfectly with a variety of foods, offering easy options to create a balanced and delicious meal:

Sliced Veggies: Small pieces of cucumber, carrots, or steamed broccoli provide extra crunch and nutrients.

Fresh Fruit: Soft fruit like mashed banana, berries, or peaches adds natural sweetness and vitamins.

Mashed Avocado: Creamy mashed avocado is packed with healthy fats and pairs perfectly with the egg bites for a smooth, flavorful addition.

Sweet Potato: I love to pair roasted or mashed sweet potato with a drizzle of peanut butter for a tasty combination of fiber, vitamins, and healthy fats.

Whole Grain Toast: A slice of toast or English muffin adds fiber and texture.

Yogurt: A scoop of plain Greek yogurt adds protein and probiotics.

More baby breakfast ideas:

For your little foodie, breakfast time is the most important meal of the day, and these easy breakfast options make it easy to have a nutritious breakfast that’s perfect for starting the day off right.

This slightly sweet, protein-packed treat is the perfect breakfast or snack!

It’s hard to meet my daily protein goals without sneaking it into every meal, which is why I’m obsessed with this version of high protein chia seed pudding—a creamy, dreamy breakfast that feels like a treat but works hard to keep me full and energized.

Chia seed pudding is naturally jam-packed with fiber and has an irresistibly thick and creamy texture. Plus, when you mix in Greek yogurt, it becomes a protein powerhouse that’s perfect for mornings when you want something quick, delicious, and nourishing. It’s also the ideal base for your favorite toppings—granola, fresh fruit, nut butter—you name it.

Personally, I love mine with fresh berries for an extra fiber boost and a swirl of nut butter for even more protein. It’s simple, satisfying, and keeps me happily satiated until lunch. Ready to make this your new breakfast or snack favorite?

You can watch a step-by-step video of this recipe on The Savvy Spoon Instagram, here!

Why High Protein Chia Seed Pudding Works for Me

Starting your day with a good dose of protein is crucial for several reasons. Protein helps to keep you feeling full and satisfied, preventing those mid-morning energy crashes. It also plays a vital role in building and repairing tissues, supporting muscle growth, and boosting metabolism.

Chia seed pudding has become my morning staple for its satisfying nature, simple ingredients, and practicality. I enjoy enhancing mine with fresh berries for added fiber and a dollop of nut butter for protein, which keeps me energized until lunch. I also love doubling the recipe so that I can enjoy it all week long!

The Perfect Make-Ahead Breakfast + Chia Seed Benefits!

Chia seed pudding is a delicious and nutritious breakfast that is perfect for meal prep!:

Convenience: Prepare ahead and store in meal prep containers for quick, grab-and-go mornings, especially during busy weekdays.

Nutritional Balance: It provides a balanced blend of protein, fiber, and healthy fats, offering a convenient and nourishing start to the day without compromising on taste. Chia seeds are packed with these essential nutrients:

Protein: Chia seeds themselves pack a protein punch. When paired with the Greek Yogurt a serving of Chia seed pudding will contribute significantly to your daily protein intake.

Fiber: Rich in dietary fiber, chia seeds support digestive health and promote a feeling of fullness and satisfaction throughout the morning.

Healthy Fats: Chia seeds are an excellent source of omega-3 fatty acids, a type of healthy fat that is crucial for heart health. Omega-3s help reduce inflammation, support brain function, and improve cardiovascular health.

Ingredients You’ll Need:

Here’s a quick rundown of what you’ll need to whip up this delicious chia seed pudding, along with insights into each ingredient:

Chia Seeds (4 Tbsp): These tiny seeds are nutritional powerhouses, rich in protein, fiber, and omega-3 fatty acids. They absorb liquid helping to create a thick pudding-like consistency.

Almond Milk (1 Cup, plain, unsweetened): A dairy-free alternative that adds a creamy texture to the pudding while keeping it low in calories. It’s perfect for those following vegan or lactose-free diets.

Greek Yogurt (1/3 Cup): Adds creaminess and boosts the protein content of the pudding, making it more filling and satisfying.

These carefully selected ingredients work together harmoniously to create a nutritious and delicious chia seed pudding. Now, let’s dive into how to prepare this delightful breakfast or snack!

Here’s how you’ll make my High Protein Chia Seed Pudding:

Combine Ingredients: In a large mixing bowl or mason jar, combine 1 cup of almond milk, 4 tablespoons of chia seeds, 1/3 cup of Greek yogurt, 2 teaspoons of honey, and a dash of cinnamon. Mix well to ensure the chia seeds are evenly distributed and there are no clumps.

Refrigerate: Transfer the mixture into an airtight container or individual mason jars. Refrigerate for at least 4 hours or preferably overnight. This allows the chia seeds to absorb the liquid, creating the thick, creamy pudding-like texture we want.

Serve: Once chilled and set, serve the chia seed pudding on its own or topped with your favorite toppings. Options include fresh berries for an extra fiber boost, a dollop of almond butter for added protein, coconut flakes for texture, or granola for crunch. Get creative with your toppings to suit your taste and nutritional preferences.

Banana, egg, a little flour and vanilla extract combine to create fluffy, naturally sweet Banana pancakes!

Rise and shine, baby!!

We’re making 4 INGREDIENT, 10 MINUTE healthy banana pancakes that both baby and mom will LOVE!

Watch a step-by-step video of this recipe on The Savvy Spoon Instagram here!

These banana pancakes are perfect for fast-paced, back-to-school mornings! We love to serve ours with creamy peanut butter, warmed jam, or good old maple syrup drizzled all over top.

The Ingredients:

This easy recipe is all about keeping things simple and using wholesome ingredients. Here’s a quick breakdown of the key ingredients:

Bananas: The star of the show, of course! Bananas are a great source of natural sugars, potassium, and vitamin B6, making them a nutritious and delicious breakfast choice.

Eggs: Eggs provide protein and healthy fats, keeping you feeling full and energized throughout the morning.

Flour: This recipe uses just a little bit of flour to hold the pancakes together. You can use all-purpose flour, whole wheat flour, gluten-free alternatives like almond flour or oat flour – the choice is yours!

Vanilla Extract: A touch of vanilla extract adds a subtle sweetness and depth of flavor to the pancakes.

Here’s how you’ll make my Healthy 4 Ingredient Banana Pancakes:

As promised, this recipe is incredibly easy to follow. Here’s what you’ll need to do:

Mash the Banana: In a large bowl, mash your ripe banana with a fork until it becomes a smooth consistency. Don’t worry about a few small chunks – those add a nice texture to the pancakes.

Whisk in the Egg: Crack your egg into the bowl with the mashed banana and whisk it together until well combined.

Add the Dry Ingredients: Now, add your flour of choice and the vanilla extract to the bowl. Whisk everything together until just combined.

Heat Up Your Pan: Place a large skillet or cast iron pan over medium-low heat. Melt a pat of butter or a drizzle of your favorite cooking oil (coconut oil works great here!) in the pan.

Pour the Batter: Once your pan is hot, pour about 1/4 cup of batter per pancake onto the pan. Let the pancakes cook for 2-3 minutes, or until bubbles start to form on the surface.

Flip and Cook: Using a spatula, carefully flip the pancakes and cook for an additional 1-2 minutes, or until golden brown on the bottom.

Serve and Enjoy! Plate your delicious banana pancakes and top them with your favorite toppings. Fresh fruit, a drizzle of maple syrup, a dollop of peanut butter, or some dark chocolate chips are all fantastic options.

Tips and Tricks for Perfect Banana Pancakes

Here are a few extra tips to help you make the fluffiest, most delicious banana pancakes ever:

Don’t Overmix the Batter: Overmixing the batter can lead to tough pancakes. Mix your ingredients just until combined, and then stop!

Use a Ripe Banana: Remember, the riper the banana, the sweeter and softer your pancakes will be.

Control the Heat: Medium-low heat is key for these pancakes. If your pan is too hot, the outside will burn before the inside cooks through.

Get Creative!

The beauty of this recipe is its versatility. Here are a few ways you can customize your pancakes to fit your dietary needs and preferences:

Gluten-Free Pancakes: For a gluten-free option, simply swap the all-purpose flour for an equal amount of almond flour, coconut flour, or oat flour. Tip: Oat flour can be a bit denser than other flours, so you may need to add a little extra liquid (like a splash of milk or plant-based milk) to your batter.

Vegan Pancakes: Making these pancakes vegan is a breeze! Just replace the egg with a flaxseed egg substitute. To make a flaxseed egg, simply mix 1 tablespoon of ground flaxseed with 3 tablespoons of water and let it sit for 5 minutes. The mixture will thicken and gel, mimicking the texture of an egg.

Protein Boost: Looking for an extra protein punch? Add a scoop of your favorite protein powder to the batter. Just be sure to use a protein powder that blends well and doesn’t have a strong flavor that will overpower the banana.

Kid-Friendly Fun: Get your little ones involved in the kitchen! Let them help you mash the banana, stir the batter, or even use cookie cutters to make fun shapes out of the pancakes.

Sweet and Savory Options: While these pancakes are naturally sweet thanks to the bananas, you can also explore savory options. Omit the vanilla extract and add a sprinkle of dried herbs or a bit of grated cheese to the batter for a delicious savory twist. Top them with avocado slices and a fried egg for a complete and satisfying breakfast.

Leftover Pancakes?

Let’s face it, sometimes we make a little more batter than we can eat in one sitting. Leftover pancakes can be enjoyed in a variety of ways:

Snack Time Treat: Leftover pancakes make a perfect afternoon snack. Warm them up in a toaster or microwave and top them with your favorite toppings.

Frozen for Later: Pancakes freeze surprisingly well! Let your pancakes cool completely, then flash freeze them on a baking sheet. Once frozen solid, transfer them to a freezer-safe container. To reheat, simply pop them in the toaster or microwave until warmed through.

Get Creative!: Think outside the box! Use leftover pancakes to create fun and delicious desserts. Crumble them up and top a yogurt parfait, use them as a base for a mini fruit pizza, or even blend them up with some milk for a healthy smoothie.

Simple but adored by my littles!

As my babies get a bit bigger, it’s time to start bridging the gap between purées and solid foods. However, we still like a mix of purées with our Whole Foods!

Here’s today’s baby lunch idea:

Roasted sweet potatoes

Rotisserie chicken

Apple, carrot, and beet purée from Happy Family Organics (our personal fave!)

For the roasted sweet potatoes, cut into wedges, drizzle with avocado or olive oil and sprinkle with a tiny bit of curry powder. Roast at 400* for 20 minutes, toss and then roasted another 10-15.

Enjoy!

Easy, healthy lunch recipes for your littles!

I have loved giving the babies the same thing we are eating, just slightly modified. Not only does it make them happy, but it makes preparing their food so much simpler!

For today’s lunch, Rox and Ry are having:

Steamed broccoli

Coconut rice: 1 cup jasmine rice cooked with 1 can of light coconut milk + 1/3 cup water

Rotisserie chicken drumstick

I love being able to use every part of the rotisserie chicken and they’ve enjoyed gnawing on the leg! I pull off the skin all over and remove the meat from the bone to make it easier to grip.

Sometimes, it can be hard to cook for both you and your littles in one fell swoop—or at least, it may seem hard. However, for days when you only want to cook one meal to feed you and your cuties, here’s the perfect recipe idea!

For mom’s breakfast:

Avocado toast with EBTB (everything but the bagel) seasoning.

Scrambled eggs with finely diced onions, bell peppers, and shredded cheese

Fresh raspberries

Crispy bacon

Mom also added hot sauce to her eggs. We’ll give the babies some time before we spice up their lives!

9-month-old Baby Breakfast, Simple, easy, and sure to satisfy your hungry littles!

Trying to make exciting but palatable food for your littles can be a real trick. Babies need a healthy breakfast to fuel their growing bodies and parents need something quick and easy to make!—but fear not! I present the perfect 9-month-old baby breakfast that my sweet twins devour: egg-in-a-hole (fried egg in toast), peanut butter toast, and cut fruit!

As a parent, I always want to provide my littles tasty, healthy options, and for me, I want to keep it simple, so it’s quick and easy to make. Breakfast is such an important meal since it sets the tone for the rest of the day, and I always want to make sure we get off on the right foot.

Making exciting and tasty food for your little ones can be tricky, right? Babies need a healthy breakfast to fuel their growing bodies, and as parents, we need something quick and easy to whip up!

Let’s face it, sometimes you have a busy morning and things can be a bit chaotic. But don’t worry, because I’ve got your back! As a parent, I always strive to provide my little munchkins with delicious and healthy options. And let’s be real, I need to keep it simple for my own sanity too. After all, breakfast is the most important meal of the day, and I want to make sure we start off on the right foot.

In this post, I’ll spill the beans on my go-to breakfast recipe that has become a lifesaver in my household. It’s quick, it’s tasty, and it’s packed with all the good stuff that growing babies need. I’ll also share some other recipes the twins love and some tips and tricks to make your mornings a breeze, because we all know that time is of the essence when you’ve got little ones running around.

We’ll keep it fun, exciting, and oh-so-easy to make. Because let’s be honest, who has time for complicated recipes when you’ve got sleepless nights and endless diaper changes to deal with?

Let’s get started!

My Go-To Recipe for the Twins

For my sweet twins, I’ve tried a ton recipes, but there are a few that have become our go-to options. These are the ones that my little ones absolutely devour, leaving no crumbs behind. So, let me share with you our tried and true breakfast winners that are both delicious and easy to make: Egg-in-a-hole (fried egg in toast), Peanut Butter Toast, and Cut Fruit!

Egg-in-a-Hole: There’s something so perfect about a fried egg nestled inside a perfectly toasted piece of bread. I simply cut a hole in the center of a slice of bread, crack an egg into the hole, break up the yolk and fry it up so it’s just right.

Peanut Butter Toast: It’s a quick and easy option that never disappoints. I spread a generous amount of creamy peanut butter on the toast hole (I don’t waste any part of the bread!) and watch as my twins completely devour it!

Cut Fruit: Sometimes, the best breakfasts are the ones that require no cooking at all. A plate of fresh, cut fruit is a just an easy option that my twins can’t resist. From juicy watermelon slices to sweet strawberries and tangy oranges, the variety of flavors and textures keeps them coming back for more and with the endless fruit options, keeps it interesting for them. It’s like a mini fruit party on their plates!

Other Simple, Tasty Recipes

While Egg-in-a-Hole, Peanut Butter Toast, and Fresh Fruit have become the staple breakfast for the twins, it’s always fun to explore new options to keep them excited and so they’re trying different types of healthy foods and flavors. Below are some other breakfast options that are not only healthy, but also easy to make, making your mornings a breeze.

Avocado Toast Fingers: Avocado toast isn’t just for adults! It’s a great option for your little ones too. Spread some mashed avocado on whole wheat bread and cut it into bite-size pieces. The creamy avocado provides healthy fats that are essential for your baby’s growth and development, while the whole wheat bread adds a dose of fiber and nutrients. Plus, the finger-friendly shape makes it easy for your little one to hold and enjoy!

Cottage Cheese Delight: Cottage cheese is a versatile and nutritious food that can be a hit with your little. Offer small portions of cottage cheese mixed with mashed banana or fresh fruit. The creamy texture of the cottage cheese paired with the sweetness of fruit is the perfect combo that your baby will love. Not only does cottage cheese provide a good source of protein, but it’s also rich in calcium, which is crucial for healthy bone development.

French Toast Sticks (no sugar needed!): Who can resist the deliciousness of French toast? Now you can introduce this classic breakfast favorite to your little one in a fun and baby-friendly way. Dip whole wheat bread in a mixture of beaten eggs and a splash of whole milk. Cook until golden brown and cut into finger-sized sticks and serve with banana or strawberries. These French toast sticks are not only a yummy treat but also a great way to introduce whole grains and eggs to your baby’s diet. They’ll love the soft and slightly sweet texture, and you’ll love how easy it is to prepare!

Overnight Oats: Mornings can be hectic, but that doesn’t mean you have to compromise on a nutritious breakfast for your baby. Overnight oats are a game-changer! Simply mix rolled oats with breast milk or formula, chia seeds, and mashed fruit. Let it sit overnight in the fridge, and voila! In the morning, you have a ready-to-eat, nutrient-packed breakfast option. The oats provide a good source of fiber, while the chia seeds add a boost of omega-3 fatty acids. Plus, the mashed fruit adds natural sweetness and a dose of vitamins and minerals. It’s a win-win for both you and your little one!

Fruit and Yogurt Parfait: Parfaits aren’t just for fancy brunches. They can be a fantastic way to introduce different flavors and textures to your baby’s breakfast routine. Layer whole milk yogurt with mashed fruit and sprinkle with hemp seeds for added nutrition. The creamy yogurt provides calcium and protein, while the mashed fruit adds natural sweetness and a variety of vitamins and minerals. The added hemp seeds offer a dose of healthy fats and omega-3 fatty acids.

With these breakfast ideas, you can guarantee that your little one starts their day off right. These finger-friendly, easy options are not only easy to prepare but also packed with essential nutrients to support your baby’s healthy growth and development and a great way to start introducing solids.

Making Mealtime a Success for Your Little Foodie

Feeding your baby can be a wild adventure, filled with messy faces and adorable food smears. But hey, that’s part of the fun, right? As parents, we want to make sure that they’re not only getting a healthy option, but they’re enjoying their experience with food. Whether you’re just starting to introduce solid foods or your baby is a pro at finger foods, these tips will help you conquer mealtime like a boss! From creating a happy eating environment to exploring new flavors and textures, get ready to make feeding your baby a breeze. Let’s dig in and discover some handy tips that will turn your little one into a happy and adventurous eater!

Start Small, Grow Big: Just like your baby, start with small amounts of food and gradually increase portion sizes as their appetite grows. It’s like a mini food journey, one bite at a time!

Food Group Fiesta: Variety is the spice of life, and that goes for your baby’s meals too! Don’t be shy in offering a wider variety of foods from different food groups so they get all the essential nutrients they need. It’s like a mini buffet of yumminess!

Tiny Bites, Big Smiles: To prevent any choking hazards and help your baby develop those fine motor skills, cut their food into small, baby-friendly pieces.

Self-Feeding Superstars: Encourage your little one to be a self-feeding superstar! Let them explore and conquer their meals by themselves. And don’t forget to introduce a straw cup or an open cup to help them master their sipping skills.

Allergy Awareness: We want to keep our little foodies safe and sound, so be mindful of potential food allergies. Introduce new foods one at a time and wait a few days before introducing another new food.

Pediatrician Power: When it comes to feeding advice and medical tips, your pediatrician is the ultimate superhero. So, don’t hesitate to consult with them for any specific feeding tips or medical advice.

Remember, feeding your little one is not just about filling their tummies, but also about creating positive and fun experiences. So, embrace the mess, savor the smiles, and have a blast on this delicious adventure with your little foodie!

Frequently Asked Questions About Baby Breakfast

What should a 9-month-old eat for breakfast?

At 9 months, babies are ready for a variety of textures. Great breakfast options include soft scrambled eggs, mashed banana, small pieces of toast, oatmeal, and soft cooked fruit. The goal is to offer foods that are easy to pick up and soft enough to gum — no teeth required!

How much should a 9-month-old eat at breakfast?

At this age, solids are still supplementing breast milk or formula — not replacing them. A typical breakfast might be 2-4 tablespoons of food total. Follow your baby’s hunger cues and don’t stress if they only eat a few bites at first.

What foods should I avoid at 9 months?

Avoid honey (before age 1), whole grapes, large chunks of raw hard vegetables, and anything sticky that could be a choking hazard. Also hold off on cow’s milk as the primary drink (yogurt and cheese are fine) and added salt or sugar.

Is baby led weaning safe at 9 months?

Yes! By 9 months most babies have the pincer grasp and are ready for baby led weaning. Offer soft, manageable pieces and always supervise mealtime. Gagging is normal and different from choking — it’s part of how babies learn to eat.

Ingredients

Before we dive into the recipe, let’s gather our ingredients:

2 cups rolled oats

2 (4 oz.) cups unsweetened applesauce

1 (4 oz.) baby purée pouch, any flavor (I use Cerebelly)

2 tbsp almond butter

1 large banana, mashed

1 tsp cinnamon

1/2 tsp baking powder

Instructions

Let’s get baking!

Preheat and Prepare
Start by preheating your oven to 350 degrees Fahrenheit. Lightly spray a mini muffin tin with avocado oil spray to prevent sticking.

Mix Dry Ingredients
In a large mixing bowl, combine the rolled oats, cinnamon, and baking powder. Create a well in the center of the oat mixture.

Add Wet Ingredients
Into the well, add the unsweetened applesauce, mashed banana, baby purée pouch, and almond butter. Mix everything together until well combined.

Fill the Muffin Tin
Scoop the batter into the mini muffin tin, filling each cup completely.

Bake
Place the muffin tin in the preheated oven and bake for about 10 minutes or until the bites are set. Be careful not to let the oats brown too much.

Cool and Enjoy
Allow the oatmeal bites to cool in the pan for a few minutes before carefully removing them. Once cooled, these bites can be stored in an air-tight container in the refrigerator for up to a week.
