Happy new year!
If you are determined to cook more often or healthier but don’t know where to start, I’m so glad you ended up here! I have been sharing healthy comfort food-style recipes since 2010 and am excited to start another year FULL of delicious eats with you.
Boneless, skinless chicken can so easily be overcooked, but I promise it does not take much effort at all to make it turn out tender and juicy – every time. The trick? Olive oil, lots of good seasoning, a hot oven and your timer!
You can use this recipe as a guide for any time you need to make flavorful boneless, skinless chicken in the oven.
Let’s get started with this particular glaze: Honey Mustard! One of my favorites thanks to its sticky, sweet and savoriness. Whisk together honey, dijon or grainy mustard, soy sauce (or a GF alternative like coconut aminos) and you’re off to the races.
Here’s how you’ll make my 30-Minute Honey Mustard Glazed Chicken:
Ingredients:
- 2 organic boneless, skinless chicken breasts
- 2 tbsp. olive oil
- 1 tsp. kosher salt
- 1 tsp. black pepper
Honey Mustard Glaze:
- 2 tbsp. whole grain mustard (can substitute Dijon mustard)
- 2 tbsp. honey (can substitute maple syrup)
- 1 tbsp. soy sauce (can substitute coconut aminos or liquid aminos)
Instructions:
- Preheat and Prepare: Preheat your oven to 400ºF (200ºC). Line a baking sheet with tin foil for easy cleanup.
- Season the Chicken: Place the chicken breasts on the lined baking sheet. Drizzle them with olive oil, then season generously with kosher salt and black pepper on both sides. Ensure the chicken is turned “pretty side” up for even roasting.
- Roast the Chicken: Roast the chicken in the preheated oven for 15 minutes. This initial cooking ensures the chicken is almost done before adding the glaze.
- Prepare the Glaze: While the chicken is roasting, whisk together the ingredients for the honey mustard glaze in a small bowl. Combine the mustard, honey (or maple syrup), and soy sauce (or substitutes) until well mixed.
- Glaze the Chicken: After 15 minutes, remove the chicken from the oven. Using a basting brush, generously coat the chicken breasts with the honey mustard glaze, ensuring an even layer.
- Finish Cooking: Return the glazed chicken to the oven and continue to roast for another 15 minutes or until the internal temperature reaches 165ºF (75ºC). Cooking times may vary slightly depending on the thickness of your chicken breasts.
- Rest and Serve: Once cooked through, remove the chicken from the oven and let it rest for at least 5 minutes before slicing. This resting period allows the juices to be redistributed, ensuring tender and juicy chicken.
Guide To Making Glazes For Chicken, Pork, Or Turkey
Anytime you want to mix up the chicken’s flavor with a new glaze, follow this guide:
1 PART something tangy (mustard, any type of vinegar)
+
1 PART something sticky + sweet (honey, maple syrup, sweet chili sauce, brown sugar, hoisin sauce, etc.)
+
1/2 PART something salty (kosher salt, soy sauce, soy sauce alternative)
= a glaze so finger-licking good!
I hope you enjoy this easy recipe as you start off your new year with new intentions to treat your body right! I’m cheering for you this season and always.

Frequently Asked Questions (FAQs)
1. How can I ensure my honey mustard glazed chicken turns out perfectly golden brown?
To achieve that beautiful golden color, make sure to roast the chicken at 400ºF (200ºC) for the recommended cooking time. Basting the chicken with the honey mustard glaze during cooking helps to caramelize the surface, enhancing its appearance and flavor.
2. Can I use chicken thighs instead of chicken breasts for this recipe?
Absolutely! Chicken thighs work wonderfully with the honey mustard glaze. Adjust the cooking time slightly as thighs may cook faster than breasts due to their higher fat content. Aim for an internal temperature of 165ºF (75ºC) when using thighs.
3. How should I store leftovers?
Store leftover honey mustard glazed chicken in an airtight container in the refrigerator. It can be reheated gently in the microwave or oven for a quick and delicious meal the next day.
4. Can I use different types of mustard for the glaze?
Yes, feel free to experiment with your favorite mustard varieties such as whole-grain mustard or Dijon mustard to adjust the flavor profile to your liking.
5. Can I prepare this dish using a slow cooker?
While this recipe is designed for oven roasting for optimal flavor and texture, you can adapt it for a slow cooker by adjusting cooking times and ensuring the chicken is cooked through to a safe internal temperature.
6. Can I add additional seasonings to the recipe?
Absolutely! Enhance the flavor by incorporating fresh garlic, garlic powder, or a pinch of salt to taste. Experiment with different herbs and spices to suit your preferences.
This 30-minute honey mustard glazed chicken recipe is a lifesaver for busy days when you crave a flavorful and wholesome meal without spending hours in the kitchen. The combination of tangy mustard and sweet honey creates a delightful glaze that will please the entire family. Whether it’s your first time trying this recipe or you’re a big fan already, I hope this becomes one of your favorite go-to dishes for weeknight dinners!
